Mamas and Milk

August 1st kicks off World Breastfeeding Week. All around the world, between Thursday, August 1st and Wednesday, August 7th, breastfeeding parents and supporters will advocate and promote breastfeeding as the most normal and beneficial way to feed babies. The World Health Organization (WHO), recommends breastfeeding beginning within the first hour after birth and continue exclusively for 6 months. After that time, it is recommended to continue breastfeeding while supplementing with healthy foods for two years and beyond. While the saying "if there's a will there's a way is true", technical, physical and emotional support are essential to a successful breastfeeding journey.

If you're local be sure to check out "Mommas Munchkins & Milk" Expo at the Pulaski Rec Center, August 3rd 10-2. https://www.facebook.com/events/414664019360487/ They are offering free information, free lunch, free giveaways and a "Big Latch On" event. There are also "The Big Latch On" events happening at other local area venues as well such as Huntsville Hospital. Stay tuned this month as we get ready for Black Breastfeeding Week. #WorldBreastfeedingWeek2019 #Breastfeeding #WBW2019 #BigLatch #NormalizeBreastfeeding #DoulasOfColor #HuntsvilleDoula #HSVDoula #DouLaSoul
